A wine that is consistent in quality from vintage to vintage, the 2010 Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir once again presents a big, rich wine for the discerning drinker.
From the Winemaker
The 2010 Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a blend of 33% Sierra Mar Vineyard fruit, 24% Rosella's Vineyard, 21% Pisoni Vineyard, 19% Garys' Vineyard, and 3% Soberanes Vineyard Pinot Noir. This vineyard diversity is also expressed in the range of clones used in this wine, including the Pisoni selection, Pommard, 115, 667, 777. 828, 943, and clone 23. Different vineyards and different clones also lead us to different winemaker, so we used some whole cluster in certain ferments (when the stems were brown), while grapes were fully destemmed. We also let some of the grapes ferment without innoculation while others led us to add yeast to the must. Ultimately, after spontaneous malolactic fermentation and several months of barrel aging, we tasted thru each barrel blind, and came up with a blend which represented continuity with previous blends but hopefully took the complexity up a notch.
Critical Commentary
90 - 92 points Robert Parker
"The 2010 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands shows lovely inner palate sweetness and freshness in its sweet cherries, flowers, spices, all of which come together beautifully in a fleshy, generous style. The Santa Lucia Highlands bottling is made from parcels in Rosellas, Pisoni, Garys and Sierra Mar. It is a blend of lower-rated barrels within the Siduri cellar. As can sometimes happen, the blend is greater than the sum of its parts. This is a stunning California Pinot for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018." ~ AG
